1953-2003 - 50 Years of Promoting International Education & Understanding

IB Diploma Graduation Ceremony

Ninety five students and their parents and families celebrated the successful end of their two years at St. Clare's with a lunch and graduation ceremony preceeded by a music recital in the new music room. Giving the parents' address was Madame Gildine de la Rochefoucauld whose two sons, Antoine and Sosthenes, have graduated from St. Clare's. Assen Bayandarova spoke on behalf of the students.

Presenting the Graduation Diplomas was Andrew Dilnot CBE, Principal Elect of St. Hugh's College, University of Oxford, and Governor of St. Clare's.

Andrew Dilnot is Director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, a position he has held since 1991. The IFS is an independent organisation which analyses and comments upon contemporary socio-economic issues. He studied at St. John's College, Oxford and has held academic positions at Exeter College and Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, Australian National University, Canberra, and has been Visiting Professor at Melbourne University.

He has served extensively on government and other public bodies concerned with social policy. He has written extensively on social security and pensions, in books, academic articles and newspaper articles. As a social commentator, Andrew Dilnot is a regular contributor to UK radio and television news and current affairs programmes. He has presented many radio documentaries on BBC national Radio 4 in the series "Analysis".

Andrew Dilnot has been a Governor of St. Clare's since June 2000, and was recently elected Principal of St. Hugh's College, University of Oxford, with effect from October 2002. He is a Commander of the British Empire.

Director of Studies Award - shared: Darae Ko and Narae Ko
In recognition of high intellectual standards and outstanding academic achievement.
Service to the Wider Community Award - Anna Beneturska
In recognition of an outstanding contribution to the service of others through the College's Activities Programme
Activities Award - Georgina Barnett
In recognition of excellent involvement in the College Activities programme and through it an outstanding contribution to the life of the College.
ECIS Award for International Understanding - Kamilia Sjadzali
Awarded to a student who is a good representative of her own country, with a positive attitude toward the life and culture of others, able to converse in at least two languages, a contributing force in the life of the school, with the ability to bring differing people together into a sense of community, thus furthering the cause of international understanding.
