Richard Smart Prize

The Richard Smart Prize is awarded annually by CIFE, the Council for Independent Further Education, for students in member colleges who have achieved outstanding results in A levels or the IB.

We are delighted that three St. Clare's students were awarded prizes. Miranda Rose obtained a perfect score of 45 points in the IB Diploma, one of only 34 students to do so in the world wide entry of 16,726 students.

Renata Jezierska and Wojciech Slowinski both obtained 44 points, and were among 89 students to do so. Congratulations to Miranda, Renata and Wojciech on their prizes, and, again, on their excellent IB results.

St. Clare's winners

Miranda Rose achieved the maximum score of 45 points in her International Baccalaureate Diploma examinations in May 2001. She was one of only 34 (0.2%) of the 16,726 students who took the International Baccalaureate Diploma last year to gain this 100% perfect score.

Miranda, from Oxford, is now living in London before taking up her place at St. John's, Oxford University, this October, to study English Literature.

She is about to set off for New Zealand on a WWOOF project (Worldwide Work on Organic Farms) starting in Auckland. Miranda will spend between 3-6 months in the country, possibly returning in July for the Truck music festival in Steventon, where she hopes to sing jazz with a group.

Wojciech Slowinski is from Poland. He gained 44 points out of 45 for his International Baccalaureate Diploma at St. Clare's last June, putting him in the top 1% of IB Diplomates. He is now studying Economics at UCL in London.

This summer Wojiech is planing to take up a six week internship with
Douwe-Edgberts in Slough. (His parents had a coffee business in Poland).

After he finishes his degree Wojciech is interested in working in investment banking for a couple of years. At some stage he would like to take a Masters in Finance in London or an MBA in Insead school in Fontainbleu.

Wojcieck loves tennis and hopes to play a part in running the university tennis club next year.

Renata Jezierska is also from Poland, and like Wojciech gained 44 points out of 45 for her International Baccalaureate Diploma. She is studying Psychology at UCL in London.

During the summer holidays she hopes to work as a research assistant in the university psychology department, or to teach English to children. When she finishes her degree Renata would like to continue with research in social or developmental psychology.

Renata likes jazz dance and is looking for a suitable class near Paddington, where she lives with Wojciech.

Wojciech and Renata said how well St. Clare's had prepared them for university life and study, and how the much wider they felt their general knowledge was than other students at university who had taken A levels.
