The
Season of Trophies
The St Clare's
Football Squad for 2001/02 could not stop winning. The squad has
picked up three awards out of a possible five competitions. The
winning ways started back in November when they were beaten finalists
in the annual St Clare's Tanzanian Educational Project football
tournament. Six teams competed and St Clare's picked up the runner's
up shield. They were beaten in the final by Cherwell School, Oxford.
Under the expert
guidance of Kevin Ryce the Indoor squad collected the first of their
two trophies by capturing the SEA. (Student Event Activities Organisation)
Cup competition. Twelve teams competed in the cup and St Clares
defeated d'Overbroecks in the final. The winning did not stop there
and Kevin's army won the SEA league trophy in May 2002.

This was a team
effort. The commitment given by all the players since last September
was recognised by the college with the official presentation of
the three awards by college Principal, Mr. Boyd Roberts. Unfortunately
some of the current squad were unavailable for the presentation
but the winning team was there.
A special word
of thanks must be given to team coach/player Kevin Ryce. Kevin has
given up 4 hours a week for the past 35 weeks to the development
of football in St Clare's. His dedication, hard work and
enthusiasm for the game is applauded and appreciated. The negative
aspect of all this success for Kevin is that he is setting records
that he needs to break.
