Academic Staff

  • About 20 full-time and 25 part-time subject teachers are engaged on pre-university programmes
  • Teachers are selected for their academic qualifications and expertise, successful teaching experience and ability to relate to our international student community.
  • Many are very experienced teachers of the IB, at St. Clare's or elsewhere.
  • Teachers include IB examiners and workshop leaders
  • Class sizes are small. Teacher : student ratio is about 1:7

Facilities
Pre-university courses are based at our campus on Banbury Road, Oxford. The campus comprises 9 large houses and purpose-built additions, located in a very pleasant, leafy suburb of Oxford. (A further 12 houses provide residential accommodation only).

The campus includes:

  • Central College administration
  • Classrooms in languages, social studies, maths, theatre arts
  • Visual arts studio
  • Music rooms
  • Science laboratories
  • Computer rooms for teaching and general student use, including e-mail and Internet access
  • Academic Resources Centre, housing the College's 35,000 volume library, periodicals, computers etc
  • Central hall, used for meetings, lectures, social events
  • Activities Department office
  • Dining Room
  • Sugar House café / bar
  • Residential accommodation

Link here for a picture of the Banbury Road campus. Since this was drawn, we have acquired two further buildings close to those shown. One provides a base for Social Studies and Theatre Arts teaching. New Place, opened in January 2002, houses maths classrooms, three music rooms and seminar rooms.

Academic Resources Centre
Located in Anne Dreydel House, named after the College's co-founder, the Academic Resources Centre provides outstanding study facilities for the College.

  • 35,000 volumes
  • Over 50 periodicals, journals, newspapers and magazines in more than 10 languages
  • Video, audio-cassette and CD-ROM library
  • Computers with Internet access
  • Self-access centre for English language study
  • Open every day during the academic year - until 21.30 on weekdays, and at weekends
  • Professionally staffed at all times
