The English 16+ course combines

  • study of English language, with specialist teachers
  • subject studies, taught in English, with an emphasis on language development.

Teachers of subject studies are qualified in teaching English as a foreign language, or experienced in teaching non-native speakers.

The basic programme is as follows:
Hours per week

  • Students requiring extra English language support may have an additional 4 hours per week.
  • Subject studies concentrate on English language and general academic skills.
  • Students are expected to take part in the College's activities programme. This helps to develop English language outside the classroom.
  • Students may transfer to the International Baccalaureate Preparatory Course (Pre-IB) if their English language improves. On this course, students take additional subject studies in English, and have fewer class hours in English language.
