IB Graduation May 2004

Graduation Class of 2004
class of 2004

In what has now become a familiar sequence of events, students, parents, and friends, together with staff, gathered at St Clare's on Friday 28 May for their Graduation weekend for the IB Class of 2004.

Students started with their Graduation photo, followed by the Graduation Ball at Freud's. Ably organised by Clemente Rivetti, Leo Ausoni and Alex Fairfax, an excellent meal was followed by dancing to a top MC brought in from London. Many friends and first year students joined in, with some welcome returnees from the Class of 2003.

On Saturday 29 May, students and guests were entertained with a concert superbly put together by Philomena Solomon, with fine performances by Chao Yu, James Knowles and others. It was followed by an excellent lunch in the marquee. Music was provided by the student Chamber Group, and some excellent individual singers. Everyone then moved to the garden of 121 Banbury Road for the speeches and presentations.

Oliver Nabarro spoke on behalf of the students, and Andrew Jay, whose three daughters have attended the college in the last three years, spoke for the parents.

Recipients of the annual awards, introduced by Maureen Guy, were:

  • Dean of Students' Award - Rahul Shaikh
  • Director of Studies Award - Xiaonan Sun
  • Service to the Wider Community - Gayatri Narayan
  • Activities Award - Fei Fei Li
  • ECIS Award for International Understanding - Clemente Rivetti

The guest of honour, Colin Dexter, presented St Clare's Diplomas to each of the graduating students. His speech demonstrated the intelligence which is so apparent in his Inspector Morse novels, coupled with huge wit, generosity of spirit and good humour.

Boyd Roberts, Principal, completed the formal part of the day with a review of the year.

As always, it is sad to say goodbye to a group of students. The Class of 2004 is one of great character, intelligence and warmth, who we hope are well prepared to move on to the next stage in life. We wish every one of them great success in the future.
