This week ten second year IB students celebrated obtaining their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award. They gained their award through planning and commitment in the areas of physical recreation, skills, service and completing an expedition in Wales. A formal dinner was held at New Place to mark this occasion with guests including; Maggie Willis (the county co-ordinator for the award), Boyd Roberts, Tom Walsh and Jon Halligan. All students now have the opportunity to go for their Gold award. Last weekend a group of St. Clare's students went to a training weekend in preparation for their Gold Exploration. We were based in the Black Mountain area of Wales. Students were able to participate in navigation training, learning about equipment and first aid principles in mountain terrain. Another training weekend will take place in October. Students are planning to canoe and hike for their exploration in mid October. Meg Claringbold, Activities Department |
