On 19 September, after more than a century of campaigning by walkers, the new right of access contained in the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 finally becomes a reality. The St. Clare's Hill Walkers were out exploring the interesting and tranquil villages of Stanton and Stanway. We climbed through mixed woodland and we were rewarded with glorious panoramas over the Cotswolds and the Vale of Evesham. Daniel Key, second year IB student, did a great job leading the group on the 8 mile trek across bridleways and some field paths. The new right will not come into force across England and Wales immediately - only in two regions of England. However, over the next fifteen months the new right will come into force across England and Wales, at last providing a legal right of access to some of our most wild and beautiful countryside. Over the coming months all walkers will start to become familiar with the access land logo - seen left. Kevin Hennessy, Activities Department |
