Background to the post
This is a full-time post teaching Mathematics on pre-university courses for students aged 15-20. It is initially a two-year position to provide cover for a colleague taking study leave. However, there is the possibility that a longer term or permanent appointment might arise during the contract.

The post
The post is primarily teaching for the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme, for which three courses are offered:

Higher level:
A demanding programme for able Mathematicians. IB Higher level is above A level in standard.

Standard level Mathematics:
This is also a demanding course requiring strong background and ability. The programme contains a broad range of topics and is designed to provide strong support for those who wish to pursue studies with a substantial mathematic content, such as chemistry, economics, geography and business, but who do not need to study Maths at Higher level

Standard level Mathematical Studies:
This course is designed to develop the skills needed to cope with the mathematical demands of a technological society. It primarily, but not exclusively addresses the interests of students who will not pursue Maths further.

Maths is a compulsory subject within the IB Diploma, and therefore a key subject within the College. St. Clare's is one of the leading IB institutions in the world, and the longest established IB school in England. Our extensive experience and profile, and the fact that all our sixth form teaching is associated with the IB Diploma (or pre-IB) provides an environment which gives a unique opportunity to consolidate experience of IB Maths teaching. Teaching may also include Mathematics on the one year pre-IB course. There is also the possibility of teaching on the one year University Foundation Course.
