The fifth celebration of Chinese New Year, celebrating the Year of the Rooster, at St. Clare's went very successfully. There was a wonderful variety of delicious food prepared by Nick French and the catering team. Our drum dance team, the first one we have ever had, made a successful show in front of the college, and a photographer from the local newspaper, the Oxford Mail, came especially for this. The lion dance group proved their popularity once again. Both Chinese students and Korean students prepared well for the performance in the hall. The audience was entertained with Korean songs, tai-chi, fan dance, er hu, Chinese folk songs, a sketch on the origin of Chinese Zodiac, etc. A never-to-be-forgotten finale to the evening was given by You Qiu Shi, Jin Fan, Kevin Hennessy, Vicky Hahn, and Suso Blanco and they aroused a lot of screams when they gave out the red packets.
