The theme for International Day for our adult students was Global Learning through Travel.

The event started with a group discussion about the students' own experiences of travel. This was followed by a group quiz in which the students had to identify different countries and cultures from pictures displayed around the hall. The best teams won prizes!

Then came the highlight: our invited speaker was Tom Fremantle, the man who cycled from England to Australia (a trip inspired by his ancestor Captain Charles Fremantle who sailed to Australia in 1829 and after whom the port of Fremantle, near Perth, was named). Tom explained, through a highly entertaining talk accompanied by a series of colourful slides, what he had seen and learned from all the people he met on his 17-month, 12,500-mile journey through 24 countries. His fundamental message to a rapt audience was to forget your prejuduces and travel with an open mind. Tom really embodies the idea of global learning through travel. The event then concluded with Taste the Difference, where students had the chance to sample teas, beers and snacks from around the globe. The event was a roaring success!
