The St. Clare's Amnesty International group held a card writing session on Friday.  103 cards were written and sent to the following countries; Nepal, Russia, Burundi, Colombia, Spain, England, Iran, Pakistan, Indonesia, Turkey, Algeria, Malaysia, China, Brazil, USA, Sudan, Equatorial Guinea and Guatemala.

Once a year, between 1 November and 31 January, Amnesty International UK asks supporters to send cards with messages of hope and solidarity to victims of human rights violations and those who defend them. People featured in the campaign include: prisoners of conscience, people under sentence of death, human rights defenders under threat because of their work, and others at risk.

These cards offer hope and encouragement to the recipients and can act as an effective way to bring about change – the impression their mail makes on police, prison staff or political authorities can help to keep them safe.
