St. Clare's Football Club started the New Year with a hatful of goals on Saturday 14 January. The home side proved far too strong for a Bellersby team, which provided stiff resistance for 45 minutes. The final score was 7 – 3. The game's opening exchanges were typical of sides that had a rest over the Christmas break. Tackles were a little late and the direct ball was preferred to the short passing game. St. Clare's introduced a number of new players and made some positional changes. Wei Liu started at right back for the first time and handled the early pressure well. Kilian Huber's switch to midfield yielded two goals for the player who is giving the St. Clare's coach more options. Abraham Roka also started in the midfield. He contributed well for 25 minutes but he needs to work on his fitness to sustain 90 minutes of football. Nick Hayes returned from injury and added an extra threat in attack. This player needs more time to develop in the forward role. Ian Lee, Vincent Graw and Dogukan Kurt continued their impressive form in defence, but need to sustain their concentration for a full 90 minutes. Anwar Kange and Ben Tollington added energy and creativity respectively. Both wingers scored and Ben also walked away with the Man of the Match award. After the match Kevin Hennessy was full of praise for the team's work rate and the input of new players. He added that the combination of Hayes and Kasztelan up front has yet to be fully developed. Bellersby's Captain, Ian Walker expressed his gratitude to Hai Huang who played the first 45 minutes for his team. The team is in action again on Wednesday 1 February with a home fixture against Sibford School, Banbury.
