St. Clare's Home

St. Clare's Football club hosted Sibford School, Banbury on Wednesday February 1. The match was played at Cutteslowe Park and St. Clare's FC defeated the
visitors 3 –1.

Ilya Chakalidi opened the scoring for the home side with some fine individual skill and commitment after a defensive error by Sibford's centre half. Ilya was a late inclusion in the starting eleven when Leonid Druzhinid was unable to travel due to illness. The St. Clare's front two of Nick Hayes and Jedrzej Kasztelan were causing all sorts of problems for the Sibford back four but were unable to put the ball in the net.

The second half began with Sibford applying all the pressure. However the stable back four of Hai Huang, Vincent Graw, Dogukan Kurt and Ian Lee rose to the challenge. Ben Hanbury-Aggs brought off two fine saves and is gaining confidence with every match. The home team played more of a passing game in this half as opposed to the ball over the top. Ben Tollington and Wei Liu continued to cross balls into the penalty box from the flanks and this resulted in Jedrzej Kasztelan firing home from close range. With a 2-0 lead Klevis Caushaj and Francisco Figueiredo were introduced as substitutes for Ian Lee and Wei Liu. These younger players showed promise with Klevis finding the pace of the game easy to deal with. Kilian Huber continues to introduce toughness and a “no nonsense approach” to midfield. With Sibford chasing the game in the last 10 minutes, Nick Hayes was on hand to add the St. Clare's third goal. The visitors did score a consolation goal in the last minute of play.

The Man of the Match award will be presented to Jedrzej Kasztelan. In this match his positioning and reading of the game was excellent. He was always in the right position and he continues to score goals.

The next match will be played on Saturday 25 February, away to Abingdon School.
