St. Clare's Latin Funk Dance Troupe performed at the Oxford Fairtrade Fashion Show 2006. Alina Kniajeva, Alona Myshelovka and Trinity Hutton were the three IB students performing at this year's show. Held in the centre of Oxford at the Vaults Café, the students did St. Clare's proud. The students arrived for rehearsal at 14:30, only to find a much smaller stage than expected! After a few practices they then had hair and make up done and got changed into the Fairtrade Spanish flamenco style dresses. With 180 spectators, the event was a sell out. The show was held in a Moroccan style marquee and the Latin Funk Dance Troupe were the penultimate performance. The group performed a specially choreographed salsa piece mixed with an Irish jig to the SalsaCeltica hit “Yo me voy”. The audience loved it and showed their enthusiasm with lots of loud cheering and clapping! Participating in this event is a great opportunity for our dance students to understand more about the Fairtrade concept and also to meet other performers and artists in the community. It is also the last performance of the academic year so a great opportunity to display the development of their dance skills and of their confidence. Vicky Hahn, Dance Instructor
