There are a number of outstanding sportsmen and women at St. Clare's. Some examples are: Shannon Harris is a Canadian student on the Liberal Arts programme. Having gone to the University of San Diego on a swimming scholarship, she is studying with us for a semester. Recently, Shannon attended the University of Oxford swimming trials and was one of 15 selected onto the team out of a total of 70 at the trials. Her first gala will be on the week after next.

Yuliya Teterina (IB1) was the first Under 18 female home in the recent Woodstock Rotary Club's 10km road race in a time of 52:37. Also congratulations to Philipp Glocker (IB1) for completing the Woodstock Rotary Club's 10km road race in 45:23 mins. Philipp was the first St. Clare's team member to cross the line.

Ian Lee (IB2) suffered a leg fracture in our first football match of the season on Saturday September 24. On Thursday October 6, Ian was back on the field as Assistant Manager of the St. Clare's 'B' squad. His side drew 1-1 with our Australian visitors last weekend. As Kevin Hennessy looked after the other squad dressed in a tracksuit, Ian took a leaf from the Jose Mourinho school of dress with suit and tie. He received a special award from the football club on Thursday night.

And outstanding musical students. Charlotte Knowles (IB1) has gained a place on the Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra and the Oxfordshire Schools' Senior Orchestra, one of the best youth orchestras in the country - excellent reputation internationally and has been invited to participate in festivals abroad, playing at many prestigious venues not normally accessible to Youth Orchestras.

A truly international community?
We are always proud of the diversity of our student body. One way (but obviously, not the only way) of indicating diversity is nationality, so you might be interested to know that we have 45 nationalities on site at present - 35 on pre-university courses; 28 on senior courses.

The largest numbers are from USA (36 students), UK (34), Holland (31), Russia (25), Germany (22), China (21), Brazil (18) and Kazakhstan (18).

Countries with only one representative of their nationality are Albania, Australia, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Colombia, Czech Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Georgia, Greece, Indonesia, Lithuania, Mauritius, Mexico, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Portugal, Sweden, Tunisia, Turkey and the UAE.

More dynastic links
Not only do we have three IB students whose parents are alumni, the term started with two students at Bardwell Road whose parents had either studied at St. Clare's or at the Oxford Academy. One student is Camilla Cravetto, who has not only extended her booking with us, but also persuaded her brother to come to St. Clare's. Her father was here 30 years ago. The other was Bianca Schwarz, who left last week after 3 months' study, but whose father had been a student at the Oxford Academy. Yet again, this reinforces the way in which students' positive experiences influence future recruitment.
