Volunteering in the community
Fifty IB students gave up their Saturday morning lie-in in favour of donning gloves and grabbing a mop to help out in shops and homes around the North Oxford area. The students all volunteered to be part of the St. Clare's Helping in the Community Day as a show of goodwill to the people who live and work near the college. We had students working in Marks & Spencers, Somerfields, Oxfam, Scope and Sue's Flower Shop in Summertown where they were packing bags, sweeping floors and generally giving a hand where it was needed.
Students were also helping out in homes in North Oxford doing gardening, cleaning and reading to elderly people. The day was completely free of charge; all the students were volunteers and there was no cost or contribution for the work, it was all done in the spirit of giving.
