Background to the post
St. Clare's is seeking to appoint a Director of Studies for its prestigious EFL summer school operation. This role itself is part-time from January to August and involves developing the academic programmes, recruiting qualified and experienced teachers and monitoring the delivery of the lessons. It may, if appropriate, be combined with a teaching timetable at the St. Clare's adult centre from January to April and then from September to December.

St. Clare's main sites are currently the Banbury Road Campus, the Bardwell Road Centre and Rye St. Antony School.

Reporting relationships
The Director of Studies will report to the Director of English Language Courses .

Duties and responsibilities

Part-time Director of Studies 0.5
The role, based at 139 Banbury Road , comprises the following working pattern:

  • Part-time: planning courses and recruiting staff from January to April; and
  • Full-time: recruiting teachers and co-ordinating the teaching programme for summer courses from May to August.

Salary range £30,096 - £32,604 per annum (pro-rata).

The holiday entitlement is 25 working days per year, (pro rata 12.5 days plus 4 bank holidays which must not be taken from May to mid-August ) .

Part-time teacher 0.5
The successful candidate may, if agreed by both parties, be allocated a teaching timetable at the adult EFL centre:

  • 10 – 13 contact hours per week from January to April; and
  • 21 contact hours per week, plus a range of extra-curricular activities from September to December.

Salary range £24,504 - £25,729 per annum (pro-rata).

The holiday entitlement is 45 days per annum (pro rata 22.5 inclusive of bank holidays which must be taken to coincide with student holidays).

Person specification

  • TEFL qualification is essential (TEFLQ in accordance with the Accreditation UK criteria);
  • Flexible work pattern is required - to plan, recruit, co-ordinate and lead at various times;
  • Ability to cope well under pressure, especially in the preparation and delivery phases;
  • Commitment to achieving academic quality within budgetary constraints.

Terms and conditions
Appointment will be dependent upon satisfactory clearance of the necessary Criminal Records Bureau enhanced checks for working with young people.

Free meals are available in the College dining room, during working periods, and when a full meal service to staff and students is being offered.

The probationary period will be 6 months.
