Job Description

The courses are for mixed nationality students aged 10 to 15 years. All the students and most of the staff are resident on site. The Course Administrator/Welfare Officer contributes to the pastoral, social and administrative aspects of the courses. He/she reports to the Course Director, or to the Assistant Director (Activities) in their absence.

Course Administrator / Welfare profile

Preferably post (or near to completing) tertiary education with some practical experience of and/or current medical qualification, such as first aid or nursing. Experience of working with young people essential; with different nationalities desirable. Personal interests or ability in sports, drama, arts and culture will also be taken into account.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Management of medical information about the students, monitoring students who are feeling unwell, and accompanying them to the doctor, hospital or chemist as required.
  • Monitoring student absences , and checking up on students absent from class, ensuring that where necessary, students receive appropriate attention and help.
  • Administering student pocket money according to the procedures laid down by St. Clare's.
  • Under the guidance of the Course Director, contributing to all aspects of administration of the courses.
  • As directed by the Activities Director, and where time allows, assisting in the organisation and implementation of a full and varied programme of activities for the students.

Duties

  • Working a 6-day week to a maximum of 12 sessions (morning/afternoon/evening)
  • Attending regular (in some cases daily) staff meetings
  • Organising residential staff to cover out of hours pastoral care, student laundry rota and nightly bed-checks in each residence
  • Living in residence with a group of students for whom you will have pastoral care, dealing with any personal problems, illness etc.
  • Welcoming students to the course on arrival days and assisting with banking and other orientation duties
  • Reporting to the Course Director immediately on any student illness, accident or loss or damage to property
  • Together with the course directors, maintaining clear records of any incident and action taken in the course record book
  • Checking that students' rooms are kept tidy
  • Checking that students are not in their rooms during lesson time, unless genuinely unwell
  • Supervising at lunch and dinner times
  • Taking part in the activity programme under the direction of the Activity Director
  • Arriving at the course centre 2 days before the start of the course to help set up the course office, and to be present on the last day to help with student departures
  • Assisting with general office duties and administration on weekday mornings

Weekly rates of pay including holiday pay:
Residential Course Administrator/ Welfare Officer - £336.71
Induction & setting up supplement: £56.12 per day (July course only)
