As part of our IB Spanish language course, 28 students and 3 members of staff spent four days visiting the exciting city of Barcelona.
As part of their tour they visited famous landmarks including:- La Sagrada Familia, one of Gaudi's most famous works in Barcelona. It is a giant temple which has been under construction since 1882 and is not expected to be completed for another 30-80 years.
- The group also explored La Pedrera, Catalan for the quarry, another famous Gaudi construction which is heavily influenced by nature.
- Set on a hill, the Parc Guell, which contains amazing stone structures, stunning tiling and unusual buildings was well worth a visit and also allowed the group to enjoy amazing panoramic views of the city.
- No visit to Barcelona would be complete without a visit to Las Ramblas. The Rambla is, of course, the best known landmark of Barcelona. It is filled with newspaper kiosks, flower and animal stalls, and all sorts of artists along with the St. Josep market, la Boqueria.
- Finally, on the fourth day, the group visited el Poble Espanyol. Built in 1929, the aim was to give an idea of what might be an "ideal model" of a Spanish village containing the main characteristics of all towns and villages in the Spanish peninsula.
