Chinese Moon Festival
Students and staff celebrated the annual Chinese Moon Festival (in Chinese
Zhongqiu Jie), also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Our students put on a spectacular show; performances included singing, dancing, magic shows, a martial arts display,
along with poems and folk songs from several nationalities on the theme of the moon and/or family.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the two most important holidays in the Chinese calendar, the other being the Chinese New Year.
This popular harvest festival dates back over 3,000 years to moon worship in China's Shang Dynasty. Traditionally farmers
celebrate the end of the summer harvesting season on this date. During this festival Chinese family members and friends will gather
to admire the bright mid-autumn harvest moon, and eat moon cakes and pomeloes together.
Our catering staff didn't stretch to mooncakes but the evening was a huge success and highlighted the many talents of our students.
