Job Description

We are looking for enthusiastic and reliable activity staff who are committed to providing a quality programme and who will always have the students' best interests in mind. Activity Organisers report to the Director of English Language Courses for contractual matters and to the Activity Director on each site for specific day-to-day duties: contracts are available for a minimum of 4 weeks. The courses start on Sunday 14 June and end on Saturday 15 August 2009.

Activity staff profile

Preferably qualified as a teacher and / or sports instructor in one or more disciplines. Minimum requirement: with work experience of a similar nature or currently following a course of study at tertiary level with experience/special ability in the following areas: sports; drama; arts and crafts; knowledge of local area / culture. Candidates who hold a current first aid certificate, lifeguard qualification or driving licence (for minibus driving) are desirable.

Duties

  • Understanding the ethos and objectives of the college through attendance at the induction session on the Saturday prior to course-start date and familiarisation with documentation regarding working practices, health and safety, child protection, etc.
  • Under the direction of the on-site Activity Director to work a 6-day week in flexible shifts, the majority of which take place in the afternoons and evenings. Please note that activity organisers have one day off per week, which is unlikely to be at weekends.
  • Excursions: to assist with planning of and implementation of set excursions. During the excursion to act as a guide, keep all monies and receipts, and take care of the students at all times. You will need to motivate the students and lead by example!
  • To prepare for and implement a range of on and off-site activities on the programme. You will need to participate actively and encourage involvement. Preparing for activities may involve buying materials for which you will be reimbursed against receipts, confirming bookings/times of activities, poster-making, liaising with and securing the co-operation of teaching staff.
  • Attending regular (in some cases daily) staff meetings.
  • Helping with office duties and administration where required.
  • Encouraging positive student behaviour in and around the campus at all times.

Rates of pay

Activity staff are graded according to the following criteria:
Grade I: £266.21 per week inclusive of Holiday Pay at 12%. For under 20 year olds with no nationally recognised sports qualifications.

Grade II: £299.49 per week inclusive of Holiday Pay at 12%. For over 20 year olds with no nationally recognised qualifications or 18/19 year olds with a nationally recognised sports qualification.

Grade III: £321.70 per week inclusive of Holiday Pay at 12%. For over 20 year olds who have a nationally recognised sports qualification or teacher qualified.

Meals are also provided in our student canteen when on duty.

Supplements

Additional sessions are paid at £25.25 half day or evening.
