Background
Courses run from mid-June to mid-August each year. Numbers of students build during the summer season and contracts are available for any length (2 to 9 weeks). The main focus of the teacher on the Banbury Road campus is to create a stimulating learning environment in the classroom and to monitor the language acquisition of each student. However, the success of the programme as a whole requires teachers to be vigilant outside the classroom (during break-times, meal-times etc) and actively to encourage positive behaviour in and around the college. Teachers are also strongly encouraged to link up with members of the Activity Team and offer additional activities in the evenings and weekends (at the agreed activity rate).Teacher profile
Teachers should have the following qualifications and qualities:- outgoing personality and enthusiasm for teaching and working with younger teenagers
- experience of working with teenagers
- TEFL qualifications (preferably DELTA or equivalent; or CELTA with two years' experience)
- CRB enhanced clearance (or equivalent EU Certificate of Good Conduct)
- PGCE or equivalent is an advantage
Programme range
Full details of the courses, their objectives and structure are available on the website here. In summary, contracts are issued as follows:- Summer English: 21 contact hours per week, for 2, 3, 4, 6 or more weeks
- Intensive English: 25 contact hours per week, for 3 or 6 weeks
- English for Examinations: 21 contact hours per week, for 2, 3 or 4 weeks
Duties and responsibilities
- Preparing lessons in line with the objectives of the course and syllabus framework devised by the DOS.
- Incorporating a variety of teaching techniques for each course: including the use of audio-visual stimuli, a study visit, resource-based learning as well as the more traditional teacher-directed sessions.
- Monitoring the progress of students in class, reporting lateness, absence or ill-discipline promptly, setting and marking homework and testing from time to time.
- Completing online course reports & certificates for each student in the ‘lead' group.
- Encouraging positive student behaviour in and around the campus at all times.
- Understanding the ethos and objectives of the college through attendance at the induction session on the Sunday prior to course-start date and familiarisation with documentation regarding working practices, health and safety, child protection etc.
- Assisting with the welcome, placement testing and student orientation on the first Monday of each course.
- Attending staff meetings and teacher development sessions on Friday afternoons as agreed with the DOS.
- Participating in the Leaving Ceremony in the Hall at the end of each course taught.
- Leading an activity session in the evenings or weekends by separate agreement (additional payment at the agreed activity session rate).
Rates of pay
a) Grade 1: Initiated EFL teachers (RSA/UCLES CELTA or equivalent): £363.76 per 21-hour week, £433.05 for a 25-hour week inclusive of holiday pay at 10.769% b) Grade 2: Qualified EFL teachers (MA TEFL; DELTA; Dip/PGCE TEFL/TESOL): £428.16 per 21-hour week, £509.72 for a 25-hour week inclusive of holiday pay at 10.769%.How to apply
