Basketball team reports

Congratulations to the senior boys' basketball team on a highly successful season which has just ended. The boys basketball team takes part in the Oxfordshire Schools League and plays matches against schools throughout the county. This season we have had a particularly experienced and competitive team that worked hard in all matches as well as in training.

The season started with a game against the European School which ended in a draw, 74 points each. The team secured their first victory against Abingdon and Witney College winning of 81 to 36. A pleasing aspect of this performance was that St. Clare's outscored the opposition in all four quarters. Two wins away from home followed; firstly they defeated Lord Williams School, Thame on a 47 to 27 points score. King Alfred's Wantage, pushed the team hard but St. Clare's secured a 43 to 36 victory in the end.

Following these victories the St. Clare's team looked as though they might qualify for the Oxfordshire County School finals for the first time. However, next Coach Peter Egawhary and his squad experienced their first defeat of the season away to Henley College, 59 – 81.

In their penultimate game they secured a victory against John Mason's School, Abingdon, 53 – 48. With only two teams to qualify from the group for the semi finals it was a three team race between Henley College, The European School and St. Clare's. In the final game of the group stage St. Clare's defeated St. Gregory the Great School, Oxford 68 - 31. This was the final match in their league.

Unfortunately, St. Clare's failed to qualify for the semi-finals due to their drawn game against the European School, missing out by the smallest of margins. Well done to the team and Coach Egawhary on an excellent season.

The team: Andreas Buechl; Giorgio Garbetta; Hao Ni; Jan Philipp Mertens; Lukasz Koprowski; Matthieu Angevin; (Captain) Milos Magud; Piotr Zgorzelski; Stanko Micic; Xiao Guang (Sean) Xu; Xupeng Wei; Youssef El Azouzi.
