Duke of Edinburgh Award

I am pleased to announce that Sierra Treloar-Searing, Ingrid Neal and Jenny Mellstrom has all been awarded the prestigious Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a charity with Royal Charter status which began in 1956. Their missions is "To inspire, guide and support young people in their self-development and recognise their achievements".

Each year students at St. Clare's take part in DofE activities and work towards their particular levels. This year three of our students reached the highest level; the Gold standard. They had to take complete training weekends culminating in an actual expedition which they had to pass.

Requirements for the Gold Award are described as follows:

You'll spend 12 months on your Volunteering section. For Physical and Skills you must spend 12 months on one and six months on the other. The big difference at Gold, is you'll also do a Residential section - staying away from home for five days and four nights doing a shared activity with people you don't know. It's great fun and a real chance to do something different!
