Dragon Boat Race challenge

The St. Clare's Dragon Boat Team was in action on the river Thames in Abingdon for the Annual Rotary Dragon Boat Race. There were thirty one teams competing in this annual fund raising event. Kevin Hennessy and Steve Callaghan led a multi-national team from Lithuania, India, Germany, Kazakhstan, UK, Italy, Albania, Switzerland and Russia. The team had three races over the 250 metre course. The team won all three races but failed to qualify for the final which is determined by the quickest time on the course. The team's quickest time was 0:57:41 seconds in the second race. The 2010 team were:

Tamir Gotfried; Casper Da Costa-Luis; Rebecca Steinke; Aigerim Kusimova; James Cavalot; Freya Bronwin; Lea Scholze; Giorgio Garbetta; Ridi Kotja; Alessia Passannanti; Christopher Caioni; Olga Vasilenko; Alikhan Rakhimbayev.

The 15 members of the team managed to raise £300 of which £120 will be donated towards the named charities of the Abingdon Vesper Rotary Club and £180 will be donated to the Ghana Service Project based at St. Clare's.
