The balm and the bane of the intelligentsia

Keith Hopper has recently published an article in the Irish Times on the Irish writer Flann O'Brien (1911-66), who celebrates the centenary of his birth this year. Keith teaches Film Studies and Literature at St. Clare's and at Oxford University's Department for Continuing Education. He is the author of Flann O'Brien: A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Post-modernist (Cork University Press, revised edition 2009), and co-editor of a Flann O'Brien centenary issue of the Review of Contemporary Fiction (Dalkey Archive Press, autumn 2011).
