Northern Ireland in November
The annual CAS Trip to Northern Ireland took place in November with twenty five students accompanied
by Head of Activities, Kevin Hennessy, Vicky Hahn, Julia Hammett and Andrew Young.

The early 0500 start on Friday morning was worth the effort with some spectacular scenery and
weather on the North Antrim coastline. The group enjoyed a group lunch at the Giant's Causeway
hotel followed by a guided tour of the
Giant's Causeway itself and
Dunluce Castle.

After checking into our hotel we enjoyed some Belfast cuisine and music at Benedicts Bar and
		Restaurant.

Derry City provided the opportunity for the students to explore the tension that exists between the
Nationalists and the Unionists. The Tower Museum gave us a wonderful insight into this famous city
and region. It is well worth a visit to understand more about the Battle of the Boyne and three
famous city sieges. Bloody Sunday, 30 January 1972 was also introduced and explained. The students
explored the Bogside area, the murals and the route the Civil Rights march took on that fateful Sunday.
We then walked to the “Fountain” to review the Unionist murals and the kerbsides painted in red and blue.

Belfast city afforded us the opportunity to explore the political, economic and social life of the region.
We explored the Falls Road and the Shankill Road with the peace line separating communities. The students
		visited
Stormont castle and the Harland and Wolff ship building yard where the
Titanic was built. In
their free time the students visited the Victoria Shopping Centre.

		The students were: Remington Pomaranski; He Zhou; Jasmine Edghill; Klara Richtarechova; Shaiyan Shaikh;
