Teacher of IB Economics

Please read in conjunction with Notes for applicants and Additional information for teachers of IB courses.

This is a temporary post for the summer courses - July 18 – 22 inclusive

The St. Clare's, Oxford IB Summer School provides two courses each year:

  1. An introduction to the IB Diploma for students who are about to start the programme.
  2. A review programme for students who have completed their first year of IB Diploma studies
Up to 30 students attend each programme. Teachers will normally work with both groups of students in their given subject. A typical timetable will involve up to 10 hours of teaching “an introduction to IB economics”, and up to 14 hours teaching a review of IB economics.

Classes are usually small - < 12 for the introduction course and very small for the review class. This enables the review students to receive individual attention which will enable them to address areas of weakness.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified teacher of Economics, with significant experience of teaching economics as part of the IB Diploma. They will be able to draw on their experience to advise review students of Economics individually on areas of weakness, exam technique, coursework etc. . They will also be able to devise and implement a programme appropriate for an introduction to the demands of economics as part of the IB Diploma. Preparation time may be made available for this purpose by negotiation.

Summer teaching is paid hourly. The rate of pay is £34.19 per hour( inclusive of holiday pay) and teachers can expect 20 – 25 hours contact time per week. Lunch is provided for all staff. Single accommodation may be available.

This post will be subject to an enhanced CRB check and references.
