Sea and sunshine in the field

First year IB Diploma students who are taking either Biology or Environmental Systems and Societies have just spent 5 days in Pembrokeshire, Wales on field courses.

The students, who stayed at a purpose built Field Centre, enjoyed good weather and the beautiful scenery but all agreed that the field courses were hard work, with long days and busy evenings.

The work included studying succession on saltmarshes, zonation in an estuary or on rocky shores, counting all sorts of plants and animals and carrying out individual projects for Internal Assessment.

First year Biology student Miriam Eimannsberger described the trip as "hard work but really interesting and enjoyable". She added "the weather was fantastic and it was great to wake up each morning next to the sea and the beautiful scenery".

These field courses form an important practical part of the Biology and Environmental Systems and Societies IB courses and hence they take place every year towards the end of the summer term.
