Vincent in Brixton - a roaring review

The IB student production of Vincent in Brixton - a play depicting the little known period of Van Gogh's life spent in London - was a real gem. The authentic set, meticulously sourced by Vicky from all corners of the country and skilfully brought to life by the Maintenance team, provided a stunning backdrop to the powerful performances of the characters.

Beginning it with the new and the old allowed the first year IB starlets to participate in the 'museum audience' scenes, with Alima as the dedicated curator. In the 19th century flashbacks, Vincent was played with humour and depth by Jack Dykstra-McCarthy, and equally forceful were the performances of grieving mother Ursula (Giulietta Tisminetzky), sensual daughter Eugenie (Antonia Desplat) and artistic lodger Sam (delivered by a convincing Chris Uisk). In the second half, Aleksandra Paciorek's cutting performance as Anna Van Gogh cemented the acting ensemble.

The audience were completely captivated by the interweaving and unravelling of the characters' lives and the dramatic finale.

Well done to Vicky Watson and her talented team both on and off the stage - particularly the wonderful work of maintenance's Dave Waknell.
