Background to the post
The College's main sites are Banbury Road campus and the Bardwell Road Centre. It also owns or rents a number of houses on Banbury Road, the Woodstock Road and some of the connecting streets. These are largely Victorian or Edwardian Houses which have been converted to student residences, classrooms and offices. We are seeking a highly motivated person to join our maintenance team and play an important role in keeping the internal and external fabric of the St Clare's estate in good order.Reporting relationships
The Maintenance Operative will report directly to the Maintenance Foreman as part of the maintenance team, which in turn forms part of the Estates Department.General duties
All aspects of pro-active and reactive maintenance and involvement with new projects and refurbishments. Assisting other teams and departments within St Clare's, as directed by the Maintenance Foreman. Performing other tasks as directed by the Estates Manager.Person specification
The person appointed will have the following skills and attributes: Essential- A relevant trade qualification
- Able to demonstrate competency in other trades
- A good working knowledge of general building work and associated electrical and mechanical services
- A good team worker, while also being able to work alone
- Capable of working on his/her own initiative
- Adaptable and willing to support other teams across the College
- Must hold a full driving licence and be willing to be trained to drive vans and minibuses
- A sound awareness of current Health and Safety requirements as they relate to property maintenance
- High standards of workmanship at all times
- An understanding of the College's core aims and standards
- A friendly attitude and a commitment to a high level of customer service
Terms and conditions
Salary on St Clare's scale for Administrative, Clerical and Library staff salary scales within the range of £21,770 - £26,532 per annum. Starting salary determined according to qualifications and previous experience with annual increments (subject to satisfactory performance) and annual cost of living reviews. Hours of work - Are currently 40hrs per week with 30mins for lunch per day on a Shift rota over a 7 week rotation, 2 weeks on 07:00 – 15:30, 4 weeks on 08.30 -17.00 and 1 week 10.30 – 19.00, but may be subject to change to support future operational requirements. The probationary period will be 6 months. Holidays - 17 working days per year, plus bank holidays and the period at Christmas when the College is closed (24 December – 1 January inclusive). The College is open on bank holidays in May and August and work may be required on these days, with time off in lieu. Pension - A contributory pension is offered through St Clare's group personal pension scheme. The employer pays double the contribution of the employee, up to a maximum of 10% of gross salary, ie. the employer pays up to 10%, and the employee pays up to 5%. Employee's contributions above 5% may be made, but do not attract a matching contribution from the employer. Other benefitsOn commencement of employment you will be eligible to join the group life assurance plan. The benefit is a lump sum of 4 times salary for death in service. You are entitled to free meals in the College dining room, during the working periods on days during the academic year and major summer courses on which you are working and when meals are being served to students.
