Bulgarian national celebrations at St. Clare's
24th May is one of the best days in the Bulgarian calendar: time to celebrate Bulgarian
culture and the Cyrillic alphabet. All pupils, students and their teachers, together with
all people working with the language - writers, journalists, linguists... - commemorate
the legacy of Cyril and Methodius, the creators of the third most important European
alphabet, and the role of Bulgaria and its literature for the history and culture of
the Slavonic people.
This year the four Bulgarian students at St. Clare's are happy to celebrate 24th May with
the first ever collection of books in Bulgarian. The collection is still small and consist
mainly of books on the language curriculum, but is steadily growing, thanks in some part to
the donations of leaving Bulgarian students and teachers.
Happy 24th May!
