St. Clare's pressure defence too much for St Helen and St Katharine School, Abingdon

This season the girls' basketball team is struggling with players, although 4 players from last season still remain at the college and a good level of continuity was maintained the team is not as deep as it was last season. They rely heavily on a defensive strategy that gives easier shots than usual. The strategy is risky and taxing on the team's fitness, but that is how we like it.

The game started with Karina TODOROVA, Marija Gvozdenovic, Lena HANSEN, Lena FULDAVER and Mia KRAUS (Captain) with Alessia PASSANANTI, Sofia Marulanda and Natalie Ranft coming off the bench.

St Clare's went all out at a good pace, putting St Kath's under a lot of pressure, forcing St Kath's to turn the ball over time and time again, which gave St Clare's a 27-4 advantage by the half time.

Mia Kraus, who was still struggling with a cold found herself on the bench for the second half thanks to the score difference. The rest of the team pulled together well, showing strong character and determination as they continued to pressure St Kath's.

The loss of height and experience proved to give St Kath's an edge from time to time, but the strength and speed of St Clare's guards Alessia Passananti, Lena Hansen, Karina Todorova and Lena Fuldaver was just too much and St Clare's took the win 48-14.
