Students meet art celebrities Cornelia Parker and Grayson Perry

On Friday first and second year IB students studying Visual Arts attended a workshop on the Creative Process at the Institute of Education part of the University of London.

The day was started by Barton Hargreaves - an artist who teaches printmaking at the Royal Academy Schools. He was followed by the acclaimed illustrator Paul Slater.

The day finished with speeches and opportunities for the students to meet and ask questions of three of the British artists.

As described by the Royal Academy of Arts, Barton Hargreaves combines traditional printmaking techniques, digital processes, lens based media, as well as prints, drawings, videos and installations.

Cornelia Parker is best known for large-scale installations such as Cold Dark Matter: An Exploded View (1991); a shed, pieced together and suspended to show the explosion. In 1997, Cornelia was shortlisted for the Turner Prize.

Grayson Perry is an English artist known for his ceramic vases, created in classical forms and decorated in bright colours, depicting subjects at odds with their attractive appearance. He was awarded the Turner Prize in 2003.

The Independent on Sunday, ran an article on "The Ten Leading Illustrators in Britain" and included Paul Slater, "one of Britain's most highly regarded artist / illustrators".
