The sky on bonfire night
Monday evening was really cold but the sky was very clear despite local fireworks. We were able to see Andromeda (M31), the double cluster, M13 the great cluster of hercules, M92, Jupiter and the four Galilean moons; Uranus, Mizar and Alcor; and Pleiades - which was best seen through binoculars.
We have purchased a Helios Fieldmaster binoculars which got a really high rating from the Sky at Night team on BBC. With high quality porro prisms, and many other features, these binoculars are perfect for stargazing and can be mounted on a tripod - essential to prevent aching arms! The images below give a flavour of what we saw. November
