Brecon Beacons Ultra 2012 race

On Saturday Kevin Hennessy, Head of Activities, completed the 45 mile (70km) Beacons Ultra 2012 with two other members of the Witney Road Runners club.

The race is a 2 x 22.5 mile lap starting and finishing at Talybont–on-Usk. It is a mixture of canal path, fields and trails up and down some of the Brecon Beacon summits, with a few miles of road.

One hundred and fifty four brave souls started the race at 0730. The first runner finished in a time of 6 hours 34 minutes 40 seconds. The last runner crossed the finish line at 10:57 pm. The Witney Road Runners were the fourth team home.

Justin was in 6th place in a time of 7h 12m.
Carl was next, in 18th place in a time of 8h 16m.
Kevin finished in 25th place in a time of 8h 33m.

This video gives a flavour of just how arduous the race is and just how beautiful the Welsh Brecon Beacons National Park are.

St. Clare's students take part in running as one of the options for the IB Activities Programme but they haven't quite reached Kevin and the Whitney team's spectacular form.
