College Excursion to Stonehenge and Bath
The excursion to
Stonehenge and
Bath is always appreciated by our students. They are two of the most
popular tourist destinations in the UK and always feature as part of the orientation for new students
on Further Education courses at the beginning of a term. Our excursion on Saturday was another great
opportunity for Liberal Arts, University Foundation and English Language students to spend the day
together, to enjoy the sights and to get to know each other better.
First stop, in the September sunshine, was the UK's most iconic ancient monument, Stonehenge. After
a short guided tour the students were free to walk around the stone circle, speculate over its purpose
and imagine the challenges of its construction over 4,000 year ago.
Afterwards, we travelled to the beautiful city of Bath - famous as the Las Vegas of its day! On arrival
there was a little free time to enjoy the cafes and restaurants or explore the
Jane Austen Centre or the
Roman Baths. Later in the afternoon, we re-grouped for a guided walking tour of the sights of Georgian
Bath: the Royal Crescent, the Circus, Queen Square, the Assembly Rooms and Pulteney Bridge.
Exhausted, but happy, we returned to Oxford.
