Surprise success or dead cert?

Congratulations to the Bardwell Road Centre football team in their debut win over the Banbury Road campus team. Banbury Road controlled the match early on with Bardwell Road soaking up the pressure and creating chances through their quick forwards on the counter-attack.

A dangerous Bardwell Road corner saw Ignacio escape his marker and bury into an empty net to open the scoring. Banbury Road pressed on looking for an equaliser, which duly came minutes before the half time whistle. With the team level going into the break, half time was an opportunity for changes from both sides with new players eager to impress. Both teams were equally matched in the second period, with chances at both ends, but it was a fantastic piece of individual skill from Bardwell's Juan that broke the stalemate.

With a 2-1 lead and the clock ticking, Bardwell Road came under fire from a heavily-attacking Banbury Road side but managed to keep the lead with a well organised defensive display and a man-of-the-match performance from goalkeeper Derek.

All players put in a fantastic display in what was their first competitive game together.
