Science Project Fiesta Finale

We recently held the Science Project Fiesta Finale, where students studying Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy work together in teams to conduct research and create an entertaining presentation based on a set theme. This year, around 80 students took part and the theme was 'Cycles'.

The students made posters to support their research and arrived early to put these up in the Hall. Everybody had an opportunity to take a look at one another's work, before it was time to begin. After welcoming both staff and students, Head of Science Ian Gill completed the draw for the order the presentations. Students were then given the opportunity to vote for their favourite posters.

After lunch, it was time for the presentations. All of the teams did an excellent job of entertaining the crowds and it was interesting to see how their interpretations based on the Cycles theme differed. Staff and a student panel gave each team a mark out of seven for both their level of scientific content and entertainment factor.

'The Wheels of the Bike 'Round and 'Round' were awarded the highest score of the day - click here to take a look at their video presentation. Their efforts were recognised with a £50 donation to Oxfam and the team chose to spend this on five lots of Safe Water for 10 people. Other prizes were awarded for the best poster and website. It was a wonderful afternoon and a great opportunity for our IB students to show off both their scientific and creative abilities.
