The latest edition of student magazine, Clarity, featured an article by IB student Mariia Tomilenko, who caught up with her peers about their intentions for further study. Here's what they had to say:
Paula:
- "Applying for university is probably one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life; it's my whole future that I'm gambling with so I need to make sure I get it right. However, when you start getting offers, it is the best feeling in the world.
In a way, it's like someone thinks you're good enough for them; a university that you choose has chosen you back and it feels amazing. My advice for applications is to get your personal statement done early.
Graduation? I'm so excited for that... Although it's a bit sad because these two amazing years at St. Clare's will be over soon, it's really exciting!"
Elena:
- Elena received offers from all of the universities that she applied to, which includes; Oxford Brookes, Southampton, Bristol, Bournemouth and Kaplan Holborn College. Her advice to Pre-IB and IB1 students is: "Do everything on time, enjoy the whole experience and try to do things that make you interesting! Don't stick to the stuff that everyone else does because universities want people who are different."
Isis:
- "I feel fantastic about finishing school... So far, I have an interview planned in mid-February with Birmingham University, an offer from Exeter and a practically unconditional offer from McGill in Montreal.
My first choice is McGill because not only is the course really varied and interesting, but the campus is huge and the city is really student friendly - that's what I'm look for. Additionally, the fact that it's bilingual French and English is appealing to me as these are my two fluent languages.
If I can recommend something to IB1, it's to start thinking about the course that you're into and about what kind of environment you want to be in, whether it's a big city like London, or somewhere more closed off with a campus. Also it's so important to visit the university if you can, because you can't really know if you want to live there until you see it with your own eyes and get a feel for the atmosphere."
