Digital Brain: What does it mean for you?

Last week a large group of our IB students went to the Oxford Playhouse to listen to renowned neuroscientist and former director of the Royal Institute, Baroness Susan Greenfield, talk about how digital technologies are having an unprecedented effect on our lives, thoughts and feelings.

The talk, part of the Oxfordshire Science Festival, referenced child development and how brains, young and old, are being forced to adapt to new ways of living; it explored the potential positive and negative changes the digital world is having on our brains and how to minimise the threats and harness the opportunities for life in the 21st century.

Dr George Speller, St. Clare's Head of Biology, said: "With the increasing use of laptops, smart phones and tablets for learning, this talk provided much food for thought, especially for our first year biologists who have recently been studying the nervous system."Studying neuroscience at St. Clare's, Oxford
