IB student wins ARTiculate heat at Ashmolean Museum

Ieva Matulaityte, a second year IB student, was chosen from a strong field of seven candidates from Oxfordshire schools by the adjudicator, the renowned art critic William Feaver.

The competition was stiff and the other candidates were confident and well-prepared, but Ieva's presentation, on the painting Hesiod and the Muse by Gustave Moreau, was selected because of her practical and creative engagement with the work in addition to her thorough reading and research. She will go forward to the Articulate Prize Final at Clare College, Cambridge on Saturday 9 March.

The Roche Court Education Trust explains more about the competition:
"The ARTiculation Prize invites sixth form students to give a short presentation on a work of art of their choice. Participating students enter one of eight regional heats taking place across the country from late January to early March 2013. Entrants from each heat will be selected to take part in the Competition Final on Saturday 9 March 2013 at Clare College, Cambridge. This event is part of an ARTiculation Conference in partnership with the University of Cambridge and is open to all sixth form students, not just those studying Art or History of Art."

Many thanks to Astrid and the library staff for helping with the resources, to Ieva's Personal Tutor, Tatiana, and her friends Ayla and Sairah, for supporting her.
