Last year's trip to Morocco was such a success, that we took our Bardwell Centre students back to
Marrakech this semester.
The group ate traditional Moroccan food at the outdoor market; Jemaa el-Fna, went on an adventure through
the streets of the Medina to see the Koutoubia Mosque; visited the beautifully decorated Saadian tombs and the
ruins of Palais El-Badi. The students were even taught about spices and their uses for medicinal purposes as well
as flavouring in cooking.
There was also time to wander around the souks and take a camel ride in the Palmeraie, a palm grove in the foothills
of the Atlas Mountains.
Carla Browne, Activities Co-ordinator at the Bardwell Centre, said: “The contrast between the two worlds of Oxford
and Marrakech couldn't be more different. Immediately you are struck by the smells and sounds, the tiny streets,
the way people live. The weekend was packed with adventure, cultural experiences and many fond memories.”
