Boys' Basketball Tournament
On Wednesday Boys' Basketball Team was thrown in the deep end as they faced d' Overbroeck's and Oxford
Hoops U15s National League Team in a Mini-Triangular Tournament.
St. Clare's were without newly appointed captain Rokas Augunas, experienced guard Emilis Romaskevicius and
2nd year Nicola, however, St. Clare's has a very committed and hard working group of players quickly becoming a
solid team.
The St. Clare's team: Jules Maurice Marcel Kleitman; Abimbola Ayeyemi; Christopher Bray; Thomas Cox; Tinnabhand
Patana-Anake; Amir Amangeldi; Vitas Janukonis.
d' Overbroeck's had a new team, better than last year, hard working and eager, with some height and good scoring
skills. Oxford Hoops have a solid team of 15 year olds who play in the National League representing Oxford.
The first game was between St. Clare's and d' Overbroeck's. St. Clare's started hard, with tough defensive
pressure creating easy scoring opportunities, soon Jules and Vitas began to connect and before we knew St. Clare's
were up 9-0. Abimbola and Thomas connected with Amir to come up with great plays whilst Tinnabhand and Chris took
advantage of the openings on the base line to make some well earned baskets. St. Clare's took the game 26-13 with
Vitas scoring 12 points.
Then d' Overbroeck's played Oxford Hoops. D' Overbroeck's were able to use their height more, scoring almost at
will against the much smaller Hoops team. However, a few changes made and Hoops managed to get the game back to
win it in the last minute by 2 points.
The last game was between St. Clare's and Hoops, at this stage Hoops were warm and already in game mode, whilst
St. Clare's were coming in cold; however, once again Vitas and Amir proved to be a real handful, but Hoops also
had players that gave St. Clare's a real hard time. Defensively, Hoops were better prepared and when they pushed
to a full court press, they stole the ball 2 times to win the game by 1 point.
