Zoological Gardens

As part of a series of classes on endangered species and conservation projects in zoos, the University Foundation Course students went on a study visit to the Cotswold Wildlife Park. On arrival, Bob, one of the educational team, took them on a one and a half-hour tour. The main focus was on how zoos have evolved, more precisely, on the size of enclosures, breeding programmes and how zoos try to ensure the gene pool of endangered species is as varied as possible.

He was very informative, and opened our eyes to the realities of running a zoo. His enthusiasm was infectious and the students were intrigued to hear what he had to say.

After the tour, there was some time to see some of the bigger animals, including the very rare Amur Leopard. This study visit was engaging, informative and inspiring and gives an example of the sort of educational trips organised for students on our adult courses.
