We will invite shortlisted candidates to attend Scholarship Day, which takes place on Saturday 25 February 2017. It is a requirement that all shortlisted candidates must attend Scholarship Day in person here at St. Clare’s, Oxford. Candidates and their parents or guardians must arrive at the College by 09.00 and are encouraged to meet the Principal, the Vice Principals and also other candidates over tea and coffee.
Parents or guardians are strongly encouraged to accompany candidates, if at all possible. It is essential that parents have an interview about their finances with the Bursar and it is highly desirable that this interview takes place during Scholarship Day.
Tea and coffee will be available throughout the day for candidates and those accompanying them. Everyone is invited to lunch in the College dining room.
For candidates, the day will include three elements: examinations, individual interviews and a group exercise with other candidates. Even though the day has a serious purpose, we aim to make it as informal and enjoyable as possible.
Candidates will be divided into two groups. Group A will sit the examinations in the morning and will attend interviews during the afternoon. Group B will attend interviews in the morning and sit the examinations in the afternoon. The group exercise will be timetabled around the other activities.
The written papers will include mathematics questions, reasoning tests and a passage for comprehension. Candidates must bring a scientific calculator. No specific preparation is required for the papers. The interviews will be informal and students will be encouraged to talk about their interests, both academic and otherwise, as well as their reasons for wishing to take the IB at St. Clare's. The group exercise will give the opportunity for candidates to demonstrate other skills and attributes.
There will be ample opportunity to look around the College and to talk to current students. Candidates will be free to leave by about 16.30.
We appreciate that this is an important occasion for you. The College will make its decision about which students should receive scholarships and bursaries as quickly as possible. You will hear from us within two weeks of Scholarship Day.
