Students’ portraits in art exhibition

27/09/2017

We are delighted to announce that portraits by two St Clare’s students have been replicated and included in The Memory Project, a poignant art display about the Syrian war, exhibited in the University of Wisconsin.

Chinasa Onyenkpa (IB17) and Isabelle Vincent (IB18) created portraits to send to children affected by the war in Syria, as part of their IB art project. Their portraits contributed to the beautiful imagery of Syrian children’s faces, which offered a powerful contrast to the images of violence and devastation.

The university held an opening reception for the exhibit, during which a Syrian refugee family spoke to a captivated audience, and two sisters sang a song in Arabic about peace and hope. The girls had not been able to attend school for four years, and are now thrilled to be enrolled in one of Madison’s local elementary schools.

We’re honoured to have work by our students included in this special exhibit and are extremely proud of Chinasa and Isabelle for creating such beautiful portraits.
