Celebrating outstanding IB Diploma results

Our students produced another excellent set of IB Diploma results despite the unpredictable changes to the assessment process (with no final examinations) brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, the grades were based on the coursework submitted in each subject, the Extended Essay (EE) and Theory of Knowledge (ToK), as well as teacher predictions and a historic performance analysis by the International Baccalaureate Organisation.

We are pleased to announce that our average score was 37 points, equating to more than 3 A grades at A level. This is testament to the remarkable efforts of our students and staff, especially as we are relatively unselective in our intake. The 2020 IB Diploma results were impressive across all ability levels with a 100% pass rate. Also, 95% of our students scored above the IB world average and 51% scored 38 points or more, equivalent to A*, A, A, the level normally required for entrance to the University of Oxford. Lily Ainslie scored the perfect 45 point score, achieved by 0.1% of students worldwide.

Oxbridge achievements
Laura Lock scored 44 points and plans to read Human Social and Political Sciences at the University of Cambridge after her Gap Year. Cornelia Chen (41 points) is going on to study Fine Art at Oxford and David Rom (40 points), who joined us 3 years ago as a Pre-IB student, will be starting his Law with German Law degree at Oxford’s Hertford College. 

Medical successes
All three of our future doctors have been successful in obtaining places at top medical schools. Twin sisters Natalia (42 points) and Emilia (40 points) Olszewska will both be starting at Queen Mary, the University of London and Yarden Toiber Kent (41 points) has secured her place at Imperial College London. Jovan Popovic scored 42 points and is now considering an application for Medicine.

International University destinations

As an international school, we also have many students embarking on their next adventure in a new country including some of this year’s top-performing students.

  • Nicholas Zane (44 points) will be a freshman at Dartmouth College.
  • Adil Shirinov (39 points) will be starting as an aerospace engineering major at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
  • Elena Kote (42 points) who studied with us on a scholarship is excited to be starting at Johns Hopkins University as a maths major. also on a substantial scholarship award, worth in excess of $70k per year.
  • Sofia Assaker (41 points) also secured a scholarship worth $100k to study at the University of Toronto in the faculty of science. 
  • Maxine Gill (40 points), another of our scholarship students, gained admittance to Minerva Schools at Keck Graduate Institute, San Francisco, (who only admit 1% of applicants each year) where she will be studying in 7 different countries over her 4-year degree with a substantial scholarship.

Overseas destinations are not restricted to only our top performers, students from our graduating class are headed to top universities around the globe including Hong Kong University, Bocconi University in Italy and the University of Amsterdam, University College Leiden and University College Utrecht in the Netherlands.

UK university successes

Many of our students scoring over 40 points are remaining here in the UK with several heading to the very popular UCL:

  • Lucy Brandriet (41 points) will be studying Medicinal Chemistry at UCL.
  • Felix Neubauer (41 Points) will be reading Psychology at UCL.
  • Julia Thomas (41 points), Politics and International Relations at UCL.
  • Loveday Lewin (43 points) will be joining the University of Bath to study Natural Sciences.
  • Alex Noel-Baker (42 points) is destined for Warwick to study PPE.
  • Ricarda Angebrandt and Umberto Belluzzo scored 39 and 41 points respectively, securing places at LSE.

Creative Arts
This year we are also pleased to have students with some places at wonderful creative arts institutions.

  • Molly Liang, who has been studying with us since Pre-IB, is headed to Berklee College of Music.
  • Gigi Wong is following her dream of becoming a Fashion Designer at Parsons Paris.

And another of our students is able to take her pick after securing offers to study animation from 5 of the World Top 40 Art and Design schools including Pratt Institute of Design, California College of the Arts and School of the Art Institute Chicago.

Alastair Summers, Vice-Principal Academic expressed his delight at the results. “This was a year without parallel, where our students were denied the chance to sit their final examinations. They showed great fortitude and resilience under the most challenging of circumstances and there is no doubt they deserve the excellent outcomes we have seen today.

Our students aim high and the IB Diploma helps them to develop themselves both academically and as well-rounded internationally-minded young women and men, ready to face the global challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”
