Shortlisted for ‘Outstanding Community Involvement’ award
Our CAS group, Share and Care came about when students Marc, Jan, Shudath and Marius, noticed the growing number of homeless people in Oxford. What started off as the students independently buying food for the homeless on the street, has become an organised initiative to find crisis packages for hundreds of individuals sleeping rough. Since last year, over 2000 items have been donated across 45 trips to distribute food, clothing and water to those who need it most.
Always coming up with creative ways to fundraise in college, last term Share and Care raised over £750 through pumpkin carving competitions, raffles and a Share-a-Santa gift-giving fundraiser. Over Christmas – one of the hardest times of year for many sleeping rough – the money they raised went to building winter crisis boxes for the charity, Crisis UK.
Due to their tireless action, the team were shortlisted as finalists for ISA’s ‘Outstanding Local Community Involvement’ award and even appeared in an article with The Oxford Mail. We are so proud of everything the team have achieved.
Ellen Hesse, Vice Principal Pastoral, told us she is “so impressed by the unflagging effort of the team. They recognised a problem and worked relentlessly, with much passion and dedication to improve things for homeless people. They are true global citizens and we are incredibly proud of them”.
We can’t wait to see what projects they have planned for the new term!
